THE CAUSE OF DISEASE

What causes disease? As I mentioned in my previous talk, our health depends on the health of our cells. A healthy cell consists of atoms, with pairs of electrons moving around them. If an atom is missing, we call this a free radical(only one electron moves around the atom.) These atoms destroy surrounding atoms by 'stealing' their electrons. Free radicals alter or destroy the cells. Cells that die and cells that replicate in a damaged state are the cause or contribute to premature aging, sickness and disease like cancer, stroke, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis and many others.

What causes the generation of free radicals? Free radicals are caused by smoking. One cigarette generates approx.one quadrillion free radicals. Free radicals are also caused by the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and insecticides, used in modern farming techniques. It's also caused by stress, lack of excercise, polution in air and water and radiation from the sun.

So, what's the solution? The soluton is a strong intake of antioxidants. They have 'extra' electrons that they can give to free radicals, which counteract their harmful effect. They are our defense against aging, sickness and disease.

How do we get these antioxidants? We find them in fruits and vegetables. Also in nuts, oils and beans. However, as the number of nutrients in our food has declined dramaticly, it is common sense to supplement our diet with 'high quality'nutritionals. What do I mean by 'high quality' nutritionals? They have to be bio-available, potency garantied and well balanced. Only then are they absorbed by our bodycells. It's also importent to have a strong immune system, which gives our cells a fighting change. So, what's the formula for longevity? The answer is, play it S.A.F.E. The S stands for:Supplement our diet with extra vitamins, minerals and fiber. The A stands for:Avoid alcohol, tobacco smoke and excess weight. The F stands for:Feast on Five Fresh Fruits and Vegetables daily. The E stands for:Exercise at least 3 times a week for 30 minutes a session.
